Jijona, Alicante
Turrón made by the children and grandchildren of master turroneros, in the heart of Jijona.
Seventy-one percent toasted almond, and never made until it's been ordered.
Artesanías Laura Colomina Masiá is a small obrador in the centre of Jijona, Alicante, run today by the children and grandchildren of master turroneros. Laura Bernabeu Colomina, of the family's newest generation, now handles the day to day.
Their turrón de Jijona is 71% toasted almond, well above the 52% the IGP sets for its top grade, sweetened with honey rather than substitutes. Alongside it they make turrón de Alicante and hand-shape mazapán into traditional figuritas, a craft of its own, outside the turrón IGP but no less their own. Nothing is held as stock: every order is made fresh, once it's been placed.
We're proud to bring their turrón de Jijona, turrón de Alicante, and mazapán figuritas to our customers exactly as their family makes them.
What makes them different
Protected origin
IGP, Indicación Geográfica Protegida, is the EU's protected-origin mark. It guarantees a turrón sold under the name was made to the traditional method in the historic Jijona and Alicante production area, and answers to the Consejo Regulador Jijona y Turrón de Alicante that oversees the standard. Mazapán isn't covered by this IGP; it's the family's own recipe, made the same way beside the turrón.
